The palkun is a wild tuber, which grows within the soil in the dense forests. It is like a makhana in appearance but in taste it is not less than a mutton or chicken. It is found only during the rainy season. That too is available only 15 to 20 days for a very short time. Vinod Lohar, who brought it out of the forests of Chakulia, adjacent to Jamshedpur, says that this time the price of the footcut is Rs 600 per kg, while the pimpled footcuts are being sold for Rs 800 kg.
Its demand increases even more in the spring, because it gives an experience of non -vegetarian dishes in taste, despite being completely vegetarian. Therefore, it is also called the mutton of vegetarians. Mukesh, a resident of Bistupur, who came to shop, says, ‘Our house is waiting for this vegetable every year. From children to elderly, they like it very much.
Easy method of making pimples
It is very simple to cook this vegetable, but its taste is excellent. First wash the footcuts thoroughly in lukewarm water. After this, heat the oil in a pan and add finely chopped onion and fry till it becomes golden. Then add garlic-ginger paste, turmeric, coriander powder, chili powder and salt and fry the spices well. When leaving the oil from the spices, add chopped foot in it and let it cook on medium flame. When it turns red well and the spices are absorbed in it, then add garam masala on top and decorate it with green coriander.
Have fun with paratha
Serve hot with paratha or roti. Its taste is not only delicious, but it also gives heat to the body, which is considered beneficial in the rainy season. In the traditional catering of Jharkhand, the footcut is a hidden gem, which is now gradually making its mark in cities. If you have not tasted it yet, then definitely try in this spring. Because this taste is not available every day.
