To make barfi, keep ready gram flour, desi ghee, sugar, water, cardamom powder and chopped nuts. All these ingredients are easily available at home. This sweet is very easy to make and is liked by everyone from children to adults.

Heat ghee in a heavy bottom pan and then add gram flour into it. Fry it on low flame until it turns golden brown. Keep in mind that keep stirring continuously so that the gram flour does not burn. When the aroma starts coming from the gram flour, then understand that it is the right time.

Put sugar and water in a small pan and boil. Cook it until it becomes a stringy syrup. To check that the syrup is ready, check with your finger and thumb to see if a thin string is forming. This method helps in maintaining the graininess of gram flour barfi.

Slowly mix the hot syrup into the roasted gram flour and add cardamom powder to it. Keep stirring the mixture continuously until it thickens and starts leaving the side of the pan. Now this gram flour barfi is ready to be poured into the plate and set.

First apply a little ghee on the plate or tray. Then put the prepared mixture in it and spread it evenly. Sprinkle chopped dry fruits on top and press lightly. After some time the sweets will set and be ready to eat.
