Material:

  • Ghia (gourd) – 2 cups (snatched and chopped into small pieces)

  • Green gram (frozen or fresh) – 1 cup

  • Tomatoes – 1 medium (finely chopped)

  • Green Chilli-1-2 (finely chopped)

  • Ginger-garlic paste-1 tbsp

  • Cumin – 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric Powder – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp

  • Red chili powder – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Garam Masala – 1/2 teaspoon

  • salt to taste

  • Oil-2-3 tbsp

  • Green coriander – to decorate

  • Method of preparation:

  • Prepare vegetables:
    Peel the ghee and cut it into small pieces. If green gram is frozen, then wash them thoroughly. Cut tomatoes and green chillies.

  • Apply tempering:
    Heat oil in a pan. When the oil is hot, add cumin seeds. When the cumin seeds start crackling, add ginger-garlic paste and fry it till it becomes light golden. Then add green chili.

  • Add tomatoes and spices:
    Add chopped tomatoes and cook until it becomes soft and oil starts separating from the spices. Now add turmeric, coriander powder, red chili powder and fry the spices well.

  • Add vegetables:
    Now add chopped ghee and green gram. Add salt and mix vegetables well with spices.

  • Add water and cook:
    Add some water (1/2 cup) and cover the pan. Cook on medium flame for 10-15 minutes or until both ghee and gram are soft. Stir the vegetables in between so that do not burn down.

  • Add garam masala:
    When the vegetables cook completely and the water starts drying, then add garam masala and mix well. Cook 2 more minutes.

  • Add green coriander:
    Finally, add finely chopped coriander and decorate it.

  • Method of serving:

    Serve this delicious vegetable of ghia and gram with hot roti, paratha or plain rice. You can also eat it with curd. This dish is suitable for people of all ages due to light.
