Famous Gulab Jamun in Sagar: The big and juicy Gulab Jamun of Sanoda of Gautam ji’s shop on Sagar-Jabalpur Highway is famous in Sagar as well as in Bhopal, Damoh, Vidisha, once eaten, the person goes crazy. (Report: Anuj Gautam/Sagar)
If you are a resident of Sagar and are fond of eating good and sweet food, yet you have not eaten Sanoda’s Gulab Jamun, then you have not eaten anything. Once someone eats these Gulab Jamuns even by mistake, then he becomes crazy about them.
The reason for this is that the shopkeeper sells very big, soft and juicy Gulab Jamun. When it comes hot in someone’s hands and as soon as he puts it in his mouth, it seems as if all the happiness in the world is in it.
The Gulab Jamuns here are liked not only in Sagar but also in other districts including Damoh, Jabalpur, Bhopal, Vidisha. Whenever people from other districts pass through this route or any of their known relatives have to pass, they get the parcel delivered to them.
There is a famous tea and snack shop by the name of Gautam Ji’s Shop on Sagar Jabalpur State Highway, about 20 kilometers away from Sagar Headquarters. There is always a fair organized here for customers to eat Gulab Jamun.
Here the size of one Gulab Jamun is 150 grams and it is sold in pieces for only Rs. 10, people pack them home for their family children rather than eat them at the shop.
Sahdev Gautam says that he himself prepares Gujiya Kalakand Peda Gulab Jamun and Mawa Jalebi in sweets, so that the customer’s trust and confidence is not broken and he also takes full care that they get clean and tasty things.
Compared to other places, we make bigger Rasgulla, after the Mawa is prepared, it takes about 1 hour in a bowl, only then Gulab Jamun can be prepared.
Pappu Kotwar says that ever since the shop opened, anyone who eats Gulab Jamun becomes crazy about it. Every day I leave from here, I cannot move ahead without eating Gulab Jamun. After eating it once, I feel like eating it again and again.
