The traditional dishes prepared on the occasion of Chhath Puja are not only delicious, but also have deep religious and cultural significance. These dishes are offered to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya by the fasting people. Let us know the main dishes made during Chhath Puja and their easy recipes.
1. thekua – Mahaprasad of Chhath
- Wheat flour – 2 cups
- Jaggery – ½ cup (melted)
- Fennel – 1 teaspoon
- Ghee – ¼ cup
- oil or ghee for frying
Method:
Dissolve jaggery in water and filter it. Prepare Moyan by mixing fennel and ghee in flour. Then add jaggery solution and knead the dough. Make a ball, shape it with a mold and fry it till golden on medium flame.
2. Rasiya Kheer – Kharna’s Prasad
Material:
- Basmati rice – ½ cup
- Milk – 1 liter
- Jaggery – as per taste
- Dry Fruits – Almonds, Cashews, Raisins
- Ghee – 1 teaspoon
Method:
Wash the rice and fry it in ghee. Boil milk and add rice to it. When the rice is cooked, turn off the flame and add jaggery. Mix dry fruits and serve.
3. Kasar laddus
Material:
- Wheat flour – 1 cup
- Jaggery – ½ cup
- Ghee – ¼ cup
- Cardamom powder, fennel, dry fruits – as per taste
Method:
Fry the flour in ghee until it turns golden. Melt the jaggery and mix it in the flour. Add cardamom, fennel and dry fruits. When the mixture cools down, make laddus.
4. Pumpkin curry and rice
Material:
- Pumpkin – 250 grams
- Rice – 1 cup
- Cumin, turmeric, chilli, rock salt – as per taste
Method:
Cut the pumpkin and cook it with cumin and spices. Boil rice plain or with rock salt. This satvik food is suitable for those fasting.
5. flour laddu
Material:
- Wheat flour – 1 cup
- Ghee – ¼ cup
- Jaggery – ½ cup
- Cardamom, dry fruits – as per taste
Method:
Fry the flour in ghee. Melt the jaggery and mix. When it cools down, make laddus.
