Spice

Semolina (rava) – 1 cup
Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
Tomato – 1 (finely chopped)
Green Chilli – 2 (chopped)
Ginger – 1 small piece (tight)
Carrots – half cup (finely chopped)
Peas – Half a cup
Capsicum – Half a cup (chopped)
Curry Leaf-7-8 leaves
Rye – half a teaspoon
Cumin – half a teaspoon
Turmeric Powder – Half a teaspoon
Red chili powder – half teaspoon
Garam Masala – Half a teaspoon
Salt – as per taste
Oil – 2 tablespoons
Water – 2 cups
Green coriander – to decorate

Method of making spice upma

1. First heat oil in a pan and add semolina to it and fry it till it becomes light golden. Take out the roasted semolina in a plate.

2. Now heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin and curry leaves and let it crackle.

3. After this, add onion, green chillies and ginger and fry till it becomes light golden.

4. Now add tomatoes and other vegetables (carrots, peas, capsicum) and cook for 3-4 minutes.

5. Add turmeric, red chili powder, garam masala and salt and mix well. Then add water and let it boil lightly.

6. Add roasted semolina slowly in boiling water and keep stirring continuously, so that the lumps are not made.

7. Cover it and cook on low heat for 3-4 minutes. Then turn off the gas.

8. Decorate the prepared masala upma by adding green coriander over it.

9. Serve hot-hot masala upma with coconut chutney or curd.
