Famous Muradabadi moong dal in Rishikesh
While walking in the local markets of Rishikesh, when people feel the fragrance of the Muradabadi moong dal being served in both, the legs automatically move towards that stall. Finely chopped onion, green coriander, lemon juice, butter and special masala poured from above makes this lentils even more zealous. It is said that the eaters say that the more spicy this dish is, the lighter and digestible.
In a conversation with Local 18, Praspal Saini, who has been running this stall for about 11 to 12 years, says that he had tasted this dal in Moradabad for the first time. The taste there liked him so much that he decided that he would serve it in Rishikesh too. He changed it a little in his style, put several stages in the process of boiling and started using butter and special sauce to enhance the taste. The result of his hard work is that today his moong dal has made its special place in Rishikesh’s street food.
Prashapal says that hundreds of people come to him daily – something to taste only, to take some packs to take his house. Many times people also bring this pulses to their relatives and friends, especially on their stalls. They believe that moong dal is not only unmatched in taste but it is also beneficial for the body due to the rich amount of protein, fiber and vitamins in it. The special thing is that this pulses are not immersed in oil spices, which makes it a good option even for the elderly and sick people.
