Chutney has its own special significance in the Indian plate. Some chutis are made according to the weather, but there are some that can increase the taste of your food throughout the year. Onion and tomato sauce is one such delicious and polynomial chutney. Both tomatoes and onions are present in every kitchen and are usually used in salads, gravy, or vegetables. This sauce made from these two common materials is not only wonderful in taste, but is also beneficial in terms of health.

If you want some spicy taste with food or suddenly the house guests come, then you can serve this onion-tomato sauce quickly.

Essential ingredients to make onion-tomato sauce:

Finely chopped tomatoes – 2
Finely chopped onion – 1
Grapped coconut – 1/4 cup
Urad dal – 1 tsp
Dry red chili-3-4
Chopped Ginger – 1 inch piece
Tamarind – A small piece
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Oil – 2 tsp
Salt – as per taste

Ingredients for the tempering:

Rye (mustard seeds) – 1 tsp
Dry Kashmiri Red Chilli – 2
Curry leaves – 6 to 8
Urad Dal – 1/2 tsp
Oil – 2 tsp

Step-by-step method

First of all, wash tomatoes, onions and ginger thoroughly and cut it finely. Now keep a pan on the gas and add 2 teaspoons of oil to it. If the oil is hot, add urad dal and dry red chili to it and fry it on medium flame till it becomes light golden.

Now add chopped onion and ginger and fry it till the onion turns slightly soft and light pink. After this add tomatoes and mix. Cook the tomatoes until it melts completely. Now add turmeric, salt and tamarind and mix.

After frying for a while, add grated coconut and mix it lightly. Now turn off the gas and let this mixture cool down. After cooling, grind it in a mixer, your spicy onion-tomato sauce is ready.

If you want, you can enhance its taste even more by applying a temper in this chutney. For this, take a small tempering pan, heat the oil in it. Then add rye, urad dal, red chili and curry leaves. Pour this tempering in the prepared chutney and mix. Now serve it with parathas, idli, dosa or any snacks.
