Bahraich Famous Food: Razzaq’s chana rice has been a symbol of taste and tradition in Bahraich for 25 years, now Rashid and his mother are handling this legacy, people come from far and wide to taste it.

Bahraich: Whenever the smell of hot chana rice comes in the streets of the city, only one name comes to people’s lips – Razzaq’s chana rice. This taste has maintained its special place in the hearts of people for almost 25 years. Available for just ₹ 20, this simple but very tasty chana rice forces people to forget even chicken-mutton biryani.

This taste started in the year 2000, when Marhoom Razzaq, a resident of Mohalla Barihat, started selling gram rice by setting up a roadside stall. Gradually his gram rice became famous in the entire area. Today Razzaq is no more in this world, but his son Rashid is carrying forward his legacy. The special thing is that Razzaq’s wife still maintains the same old taste. She wakes up every morning at 4 o’clock and prepares rice and gram and peas, so that she can serve hot thali to the customers by seven to eight o’clock.

This gram rice is not ordinary. It contains a combination of soft cooked rice and gram-peas cooked in local spices. The layer of fried onion on top adds to the taste. Eaters say that this rice is neither very spicy nor bland, but its taste is perfectly balanced. This is the reason why people come from far and wide to eat it.

Rashid says that many people even pack the same rice in their children’s tiffin. Children like it so much that they return home and request to eat it again. There is a crowd at the shop from morning till afternoon.

Razzaq’s gram rice has now become the identity of Bahraich. This is not just a dish, but a story of hard work, tradition and taste, which reminds people of Razzaq with every bite.
