If you want to make something tasty and healthy for breakfast or light dinner, then Moong Dal Appe is a great option. This is a traditional dish of South India, which is made with very little oil. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, appe not only fills the stomach but is also rich in protein. Let us know the easy method of making them.

To make Moong Dal Appe, you need one and a half cup of yellow Moong Dal, one green chilli, some ginger, some curry leaves, one spoon finely chopped onion, salt as per taste, some cumin, chopped coriander and some curd. If you wish, you can also add some grated carrots or finely chopped capsicum, which increases the taste and nutrition.

Soak moong dal in water for 3-4 hours. After this, drain the water and put the pulses in the mixer and add ginger, chilli and some curd to it and make a smooth but slightly thick batter. Keep in mind that the solution should neither be too thin nor too thick. Now add salt, cumin, onion, green coriander and vegetables and mix well.

Now heat the appe pan (also known as paniyara pan) on gas and apply a little oil in each groove. When the pan becomes hot, put the moong dal mixture in every groove. Cover the lid and cook on low flame for 3-4 minutes.

When the bottom side turns golden, turn the appe and cook the other side also for 2-3 minutes. The appe is ready when it becomes slightly crisp and golden on both sides.

Serve hot moong dal appe with coconut chutney, green chutney or tomato sauce. These are perfect for breakfast, tiffin or evening snacks. Being made with less oil, this dish remains light for both heart and stomach.
