Khargone. Sweet is the thing that everyone likes. Some woo cashew katli, some Gulab Jamuns, but in Maheshwar, the historical and tourist city of Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, there is such a dessert, which has maintained its sweetness on the tongue of people for years. The Mawa Barfi here is as famous as Bareilly’s Barfi. Even today, it is as delicious as it was 55 years ago. Actually, the shop named Krishna Sweets near Maheshwar’s fort is still called ‘cute brother’s sweets’.

The Mawa Barfi found here is not just a dessert, but the tradition, trust and taste that is going on from one generation to another. The foundation of the shop was laid by Pyarelal Solanki in the 1960s. Today his son Pritam Solanki is carrying forward the same taste and quality without changing. Pritam says, the biggest feature of our sweets is that there is no frills of appearances, nor branding, only purity and the same old recipe, which people had eaten in childhood, the same taste is still available today.

Line for barfi

About 7 kg Mawa Barfi is made here every morning. The special thing is that as soon as it is made, sweets are sold completely in a few hours. The demand for sweets is so much that many times customers get in line before opening the shop. Let me tell you that this barfi, priced at just Rs 400 a kg, looks ordinary, but the taste is such that there is no other option by eating once. Customers say that “This barfi is different from the rest of the mawa snow. The sweetness in it is balanced, the scent of the mawa remains fresh and feels lightness.

Mawa barfi’s special recipe
Shopkeepers say that the method of making this dessert is not very special, but the special recipe used in it is not told to anyone. This family Raj makes it different from others. Pritam says that, we do not use adulterated or bought mawa from the market. The fresh mawa made of native milk and our traditional method is the secret of the taste of sweets. That is why there are discussions of taste by taking sweets in the entire district. Tourists who come here also taste sweets once.
