Godda Famous Chai Corner: The lotus tea shop located at Bhikamanga Chowk near Godda bus stand has its special identity across the district. This tea shop remains open round the clock, so that the passengers and locals traveling can enjoy tea anytime. There is always a crowd of customers here due to being close to the bus stand. Selling about 50 kg of milk tea daily is proof of its popularity.

The shop is 46 years old
For about 46 years, this shop is present at the main square of the district. The shop was started by Kamal’s father, who ran it for 26 years. For the last 20 years, Kamal himself has been operating this shop. His routine is divided into two parts – from 11 am to 4 pm and then from 7 pm to 1 pm, he himself handles the shop, while the rest of the time his father serves tea.

Surjit Jha, a regular customer of the shop, says that “Ever since he is conscious, I am drinking tea of this shop. Earlier this shop was in the east direction of the road, but now it has come next to the office of the Education Department.” They believe that the time of this shop to be open is its biggest feature- whether it is day or night, tea is always ready.

Due to being located at the main square, administrative officers, public representatives and passengers coming from far and wide also stop here. Many times the officials like to get tea from the lotus shop in their office too.

For more than four consecutive decades, the lotus tea shop has made its own identity not only in Godda but also in the surrounding districts. Tea here is not just a drink for the people, but is a means to eradicate friendship, conversation and journey fatigue. Perhaps this is the reason that whatever the time, there is a crowd of tea lovers here.
