On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, making special sweets to fill the house with happiness is pleasing to everyone. It is a traditional and delicious option to make Puran Poli on this festival, which is very much liked by the whole family and guests.

Puran Poli is one of the most popular sweets of Maharashtra. It is made with great pomp on festivals like Teej, Holi and Ganesh Chaturthi. This dessert prepared from jaggery and gram dal provides both taste and nutrition.

To make Puran poli, flour, gram flour, jaggery, gram dal, cardamom powder and ghee are required. Soak gram dal at least 5 hours in advance. Mix ghee and salt in the dough and knead soft dough and keep it covered for 15–20 minutes.

Put the washed gram dal in the cooker and cook it well till two or three whistles. Keep the ripe lentils separate to cool down. This process makes the lentils soft and is ready to make sweet poli.

Fry the gram flour in a pan till it turns light brown. Then add jaggery and melt it. After this, add boiled dal and cardamom powder and mix well. The mixture should be thick and sticky.

Make small dough balls. Take a dough and roll and fill the prepared mixture in the middle. Now close it and roll it round. Keep in mind that stuffing does not come out and the poli remains in beautiful round shape.

Heat the griddle and roast the poli on both sides till it turns golden on medium flame. Polly will be ready. Apply it in bhog with hot ghee, it makes the festival memorable with taste and fragrance.
